David Ruebain, Pro-Vice-Chancellor (Culture, Equality and Inclusion) wrote to all staff earlier today, Tuesday 20 August. You can read the full text of his email below.
Dear Colleague,
I do hope that you are getting a break when work allows and are able to enjoy the summer. As many of us take leave, this update will be shorter.
Brighton & Hove Pride
The first weekend in August brought us the famous, annual Pride festival. This was the seventh consecutive year that the University has been a proud partner of the Brighton & Hove Pride community parade. As you can see from the recent , the 60 staff and students who took part enjoyed the day, and the quotations from participants illustrate Pride’s importance in celebrating diversity and inclusivity.
I was sorry to miss this year’s event due to personal commitments. Being part of Brighton Pride reflects the University’s commitment to inclusion and equality for all LGBTQ+ people including staff, students and the wider community: a huge thank you to everyone who took part in the University's walking party this year.
Equality data
I would like to remind you about which asks you all to review and, if necessary, update your equalities information in MyView. There have been some changes made to the categories recently which mean that the data for a significant amount of staff is incomplete, particularly with relation to ethnicity.
Collecting equality data is very important to help us understand patterns of underrepresentation and disadvantage so as to enable focused actions that foster an inclusive and diverse workplace. Your help in keeping this confidential data up to date and relevant is essential to support our action plans, policies and initiatives. Thank you for your support.
With good wishes,
David Ruebain
Pro-Vice-Chancellor (Culture, Equality and Inclusion)
