Module Outline

The module will introduce the new and increasingly important area of FinTech, and will cover many aspects of blockchain development: basic cryptography, blockchain construction, applications of distributed ledger technology and smart contracts in financial markets; crowdfunding; and cryptocurrency markets [bitcoin and ether in particular].

Module learning outcomes

Critically evaluate, compare and contrast, the cryptographic construction and applications of private and public blockchains

Systematically understand blockchain architecture and evaluate the roles of layer 0, 1, 2 and 3 blockchain protocols

Demonstrate comprehensive understanding of the different types of crypto assets, including native tokens, stablecoins, non-fungible tokens (NFTs) and Decentralised Finance (De-Fi) tokens.

Critique the functions of different on-chain and off-chain Ce-Fi and De-Fi platforms and protocols and evaluate their operational, credit and market risks offerings
