Module Outline

This module introduces the models and technologies used to provide distributed applications and services over the Internet. Students will study the features and problems of building distributed applications, such as naming, security, synchronisation, replication, object persistence and content distribution. Students will use an appropriate Web Framework to build distributed web applications.

Module learning outcomes

Describe the algorithms and technologies underpinning the design of distributed web and internet applications, including the problems of security and of concurrency and synchronisation across replicated services.

Solve problems in the design of Internet applications and services, using a variety of related technologies.

Build programs using a range of services available within the J2EE toolkit.
