We carry out internationally leading research across a range of areas in computer science, artificial intelligence and cognitive science. Our research spans the theoretical and applied, often crossing traditional discipline boundaries.

100% of our Computer Science and Informatics research environment was classified as conducive to producing research of world-leading or internationally-excellent quality in the latest Research Excellence Framework (REF 2014).

Our research is organised around the following three research groups:

• Artificial Intelligence
• Creative Technology
• Foundations of Software Systems

Our research often entails collaborations between the groups, as well as with other departments at СÀ¶ÊÓƵ and external academic, institutional and commercial partners. Funding for research projects comes from UK research councils (EPSRC, BBSRC, ESRC, AHRC, MRC), Innovate UK (formerly the Technology Strategy Board), the European Union, charities, industrial contracts, and philanthropic donations.
