Incubator Programme 2023-2024
Piloted with success last year and returning this year, the Incubator Programme is a mix of formal and informal events aiming at igniting conversations across campus to generate and develop new ideas and collaborations.
This year for the first time, the Incubator Programme includes fortnightly technical surgeries with SHL Research Software Engineer Nic Seymour-Smith where researchers can drop-in and chat to Nic about the software needs and challenges of their project. Surgeries are every other Thursday, 2-3 in the lab (Silverstone Level 2, Opposite SB 211).
It also includes fortnightly research development sessions on Mondays 12:30 to 1:30pm, with SHL programme manager Elena Dennison where researchers can book a slot to talk about development of proposals within SHL remit. Email e.dennison@sussex.ac.uk to book a slot.
Research Forum and Monday Lunches
The Research Forum is the cornerstone of the Incubator Programme. Research Forums are open to all scholars, a lively space where three or more speakers share projects at different stages of development: updates on current funded projects to keep the community informed; feedback on a project in planning to provide support during bid development and submission; and brainstorming around initial seeds of ideas for future projects in order to shape research funding bids.
Research Forums take place on Mondays at 2pm online and in the lab (SIlverstone, Level 2 - Opposite SB211). This academic year are on: 30th October, 11th December 2023, 12th February and 15th April 2024. Get in touch if you wish to present your work at a Forum shl@sussex.ac.uk.
The programme also includes social events such as Monday lunches, where researchers get together around our famous checkerboard tablecloths (pictured) to share a light lunch (provided) and exchange ideas and plans.
Visit our What’s On page for details on venues, times, and registration (where applicable).
Be part of the conversation. All welcome!
