  • Attenborough Centre for the Creative Arts

    Attenborough Centre for the Creative Arts is an interdisciplinary arts hub connecting 小蓝视频 with wider regional, national and international arts communities and is part of the Library, Culture and Heritage Division of the University. The centre presents a seasonal programme of performance, dance, live art, film, music, discussion & debate and digital practices.

    Attenborough Centre for the Creative Arts is guided by the values championed by Sir Richard Attenborough (former chancellor of 小蓝视频) in his life and work: human rights, social justice, creative education and access to the arts for all. Michael Attenborough CBE is the patron of Attenborough Centre for the Creative Arts.

    As part of the 小蓝视频, Attenborough Centre for the Creative Arts supports innovation in research by academics and works regularly with the campus community to support teaching, student projects and conferences. Wider community and artistic engagement takes place through an interdisciplinary artistic programme and artist residencies, reaching a wide range of audiences and supporting a set of creative practitioners.

  • Collections

    The Collections Team comprises Collection Development and Collection Services working in the Library on campus, and Special Collections, based at . In addition, the team includes colleagues working on a long-term project: the BLDS Legacy Collection project. The Collections Team is led by the Collections Manager.     Collection Development

    Collection Development is responsible for managing stock in the Library building. Working closely with our colleagues, we ensure that the Library's printed and digital collections meet the current and future needs of teaching and research. 

    Some examples of our responsibilities include:

    • Implementing, coordinating and developing the Library's Collection Management Policy
    • Managing projects directed by the Collection Management Group, eg. weeding the Core Collection
    • Supervising the ongoing stock review process
    • Developing the use of collection management tools, eg. new ways of providing access to e-books
    • Overseeing the Library's participation in collaborative initiatives, eg. the UKRR project to share the responsibility of retaining low-use print journals.

    Special Collections

    Special Collections is responsible for the University's archive and rare book collections, including the institutional archive of the 小蓝视频. We work with partners at The Keep to provide access to the collections in the reading room and assist researchers from all over the UK and beyond.

    Some examples of our responsibilities include:

    • the care and preservation of the collections, including digital collections
    • facilitation of teaching sessions using archives and rare books, introducing students to archive handling and archive literacy
    • providing an enquiry service and research support to users of special collections
    • cataloguing archive and rare book collections
    • promoting special collections within the University and through external networks

  • Content Delivery

    The Content Delivery Team is managed by Annette Moore, the Content Delivery Senior Manager.  There are several sections within the team: Reading Lists, Acquisitions, Cataloguing and Metadata, Subscribed Resources & Interlibrary Requests and Digital Content.  The section is responsible for liaising with Schools and tutors regarding setting up reading lists for their modules, including support for Online Distant Learning modules (ODL). Content Delivery are responsible for all types of purchasing of content, from purchase suggestions to essential and recommended reading on Reading Lists, as well as managing subscriptions to journals (mainly online journals, but a few in print) and purchasing and providing access to streaming video content for film and media courses.  The team also ensures that content is set up on the Library Management System, Alma and made discoverable and accessible to our users from the Library Search. The Interlibrary Request service and digitisation service are also part of the Content Delivery Team. Additionally, the section provides support for any digital content access issues and for questions regarding copyright at the University.

    Digital Content and Access  

    Digital Content and Access Librarian (Ellie Craig) 

    The Digital Content and Access Librarian manages the life cycle of online resources, from trial and acquisition, liaising with publisher and subscription agents to negotiate the best prices for journals and digital content, managing access, monitoring usage, and reporting on value for money, through to renewal or possible cancellation.

    Acquisitions

    The Acquisitions team is line-managed by the Content Delivery and Access Librarian and Supervised by the Content Delivery Supervisor (Cathy Evans). 

    The Acquisitions team deals with the purchase and processing of both new and existing stock. This includes print, individual eBooks & AV. The main responsibilities of the team are ordering, receipting, activating /upgrading eBooks, preparing new stock and repairing/reprocessing existing stock. Print orders from our main supplier arrive shelf-ready, so minimal processing is required on receipt of new items. Where items are purchased online from Amazon or Abe (mainly DVDs and out of print titles), labels, barcode and RFID tags are added by Acquisitions staff.  

    Additionally, Acquisitions staff process digitisation requests using the CLA’s Digital Content Store. The majority of the digitisation work is done in-house by the team, using a high-quality overhead scanner. Digitised course readings are then linked to the online reading list. 

    Some of the team also help with Reading List work and other projects, such as the digitisation of theses.

    Subscribed Resources and Interlibrary Requests (ILR) 

    The Subscribed Resources and ILR team are line-managed by the Content Delivery and Access Librarian. 

    The Interlibrary Requests team deal with requests from our users to obtain Books and Journal Articles that is not held by or available through the library.  Additionally, the ILR team participate in interlending with other libraries (mainly academic libraries) to lend books from our own stock or send copies of articles from both print and electronic holdings.  

    The requests are received and processed electronically and the ILR team obtain both journal articles and access to eBooks, along with loans of print books.  

    The team also deals with subscribed journals and newspaper, ordering individual journals, daily newspapers and standing orders and processing them when they arrive in the library, to make them available to our users. 

    Digital Content  

    The Digital Content team responds to queries and issues about access to our online resources, ensuring that access is as smooth and seamless as possible. They also collect usage statistics for our online resources on a regular basis and assist with project work on digital content.  

    The Content Delivery Library Officer (eBooks), Josie Watson, supports the Content Delivery and Access Librarian and the Content Delivery Senior Manager in setting up and maintaining access to eTextbooks, as well as collecting usage statistics for all the library’s eBook provision and liaising with the Metadata and Discovery Officer on additions and removals of eBook content to collections. Josie also provides technical support for the library’s resource list management system, Leganto.

    Metadata and Discovery  

    The Metadata and Discovery team is line-managed by the Content Delivery Senior Manager and Tim Haillay is the Metadata and Discovery Officer. 

    The Metadata and Discovery team is responsible for: 

    • The day-to-day cataloguing and classification of all print and electronic purchased and subscribed book content 
    • The cataloguing of all university eThesis output and the monitoring and extension/lifting of all associated embargoes 
    • The minting and registration of new ISBNs and DOIs for university and associated publications 
    • The exporting of selected catalogue content to the external catalogues/metadata sources: the National Bibliographic Knowledgebase (NBK) and WorldCat 
    • The cataloguing (inc. Marc record enhancing) and classification of legacy data 
    • The reclassification (to Library of Congress) of print books classified using the local 小蓝视频 schemas.

    Reading Lists  

    The Reading List Team is line managed by the Content and Engagement Librarian, Josh Jenkin. The Reading List team is responsible for: 

    The day-to-day reviewing of reading lists to ensure lists are accurate and that links work.  This reviewing process is also used to inform the library’s acquisitions in that while reviewing lists, staff ensure adequate provision of materials and purchase as necessary. The team's work also includes digitisation; where requests are found on reading lists or where the team identifies the need to digitise the requests are sent through to the Acquisitions team and overseen through to resolution. 

    Members of the team offer advocacy and training to academic staff using the reading lists to ensure they develop the skills and knowledge needed take full control of their Online Reading list and this includes populating, editing, and updating. 

    The team liaises with the academic schools to improve understanding of and encourage engagement with the library reading lists software.

    Online Distance Learning  

    The Online Distance Learning team is managed by the Content and Engagement Librarian, Josh Jenkin.  Maria Bishop and Sarah Beamish are the two Content Delivery Library Officers, and they supervise two Library Assistants.   The team works closely with the ODL Librarian who is based in the Enhanced Education team which is based in the library.  

    The ODL team provides support for Online Distance Learning courses to ensure that the relevant online resources are acquired and made available for use by students registered on the University’s Online Distance Learning modules.

  • Digital Discovery

    This team manages the Library's digital systems, data preservation and digital innovation. The team is led by our Digital Development Manager and includes our Research Data and Digital Preservation Technologist and Systems Librarian. The main responsibility of this team is to work with ITS, Special Collections, Academic Services and the 小蓝视频 Humanities Lab, to develop and implement new processes to support the long-term preservation of the University's research outputs and Special Collections, and to work across Library teams to manage the Library's digital systems.

    Teaching and Learning

    The Learning and Teaching Support team looks after library provision for students on taught courses- both undergraduate and postgraduate which is mainly managed via our online reading list system. We support students throughout their studies, liaising with academic staff to find the most effective ways to achieve this. It usually involves a combination of lectures and workshops where we cover topics such as effective searching, referencing and finding quality information using the Library's online resources. We also offer bookable training sessions for students in the Library, tailored to their needs. The Learning and Teaching Support team maintain the subject guides and the Library's information skills guide.
