Championing Literacy Placement (Q3322)

30 credits, Level 6

Spring teaching

This module is a collaboration with the National Literacy Trust. We support you to create a new initiative or work with an existing project to support the improvement of literacy within specific communities (e.g. supporting work in schools, reading groups, libraries, care homes, working with businesses, etc.). You act as a Literacy Champion, drawing upon your skills and expertise developed throughout your degree.

Initial training will be provided by the National Literacy Trust, with on-going training through on-line contact, and further teaching through seminars at 小蓝视频 on literacy and community engagement, as well as placements with organisations. You will be supervised one-to-two to support the development of your initiative.

Assessment will be through a critical reflective portfolio, which evidences both the rationale and outcomes of your initiative through engagement with research on community engagement and literacy. This will make the experience gained from this module highly transferable, providing direct experience of project management, collaborative working, and applying academic research to support literacy in community organisations.
