Get academic support

If you need help with your studies, visit your course tutors during their office hours, or book an appointment.

You can also talk to your Academic Adviser about your progress, how to improve your study skills or problems with your course.

If you are a Masters student, you can get support from your course convenor and your dissertation supervisor.

Access online learning resources

Benefit from Canvas – an online learning environment with course information designed by your tutors. Through Canvas, you can check your timetable, take part in forums and quizzes and keep up-to-date with lecture slides, notes and recordings.

You can also use videos, tutorials and exercises on our online study skills portal to develop your skills in:

  • writing and referencing
  • using the library and research materials
  • exams and assessments
  • personal development.

Attend workshops and tutorials

To help you develop your skills, you can attend workshops and tutorials in areas such as:

  • developing your IT skills

You can also get one-to-one guidance from a trained student mentor, who will help you develop your study skills.

If you’re a PhD student, we have specialised workshops and online training to help you with your research.

Improve your English language skills

If you’re an international student and English is not your first language, we offer specialist study skills workshops or one-to-one appointments.

As part of the workshops, you learn:

  • grammar skills for academic study
  • how to write essays and dissertations
  • how to take notes
  • listening and speaking skills
  • how to develop your writing style and academic vocabulary.
